Who am I Lord, that you have brought me this far?
Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant–and this decree, Sovereign LORD, is for a mere human! “What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Sovereign LORD. 2 Samuel 7:18-20
David is such an example of a humble heart. Here he is King of Israel, yet there is no pride or arrogance in him as he prays and acknowledges that it is God who has brought him this far. Many would say David is among the greatest man in Israel’s history, yet he is awestruck that God would treat him as if he were the highest exalted of men. It is no wonder when earlier David has it in his heart to build a house for the Lord, that the Lord hears David’s heart and responds to David telling him through the prophet Nathan that He will establish David’s house and kingdom, and it will endure forever before God; his throne will be established forever. David is thankful and humbled by God’s sovereign decision to establish the throne of David. We know Jesus is from the line of David and he is returning one day to sit on the throne, fulfilling God’s promise to David. That day is coming, be watching and waiting for while no man knows the day or the hour when Jesus will return, you can see the signs that the season is near. Except that Jesus returns, this world will not survive. Come Lord Jesus, come.
