No Poor People
However, there need be no poor people among you, for in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you, if only you fully obey the LORD your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today. Deuteronomy 15:4-5
“The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” These are the words the God spoke as he passed in front of Moses on Mount Sinai. God’s plan for man from the beginning, from Adam and Eve, was to provide for their every need, to have fellowship with man, to be loving and faithful, compassionate and gracious. We know the failures of Adam and Eve in keeping God’s commands, simple as they were, do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, yet they did. Here, about 2,500 years later, Israel is poised to enter and take possession of the promised land. Again God speaks to meeting all their needs, there need be no poor people among you, if only you fully obey God. God knows the people will fail as a few verses later he says “there will always be poor people in the land.” But, this promise is also on an individual basis in that God promises today to meet all your needs if your will trust and obey Him. You may still go through hard times, but if you trust and obey Him he will meet your needs each day.
